Client Support - Web Hosting FAQ
With major companies such as AT&T, MCI, Sprint, Netcom and AOL providing dialup services, we felt we should concentrate on providing fast, high quality Web hosting services. Therefore, Global Presence does not provide dialup services. One of the major advantages of this is that nearly all the bandwidth we offer is reserved for serving your Web documents. Accounts requested by 6:00 p.m., EST weekdays will be activated by the next business day. Once the account is activated, we will send a confirmation via e-mail to the primary contact. Web Accounts will be accessible through a temporary IP address while the domain is being registered or transferred. YES! To learn more about our Web Design services, click here. We offer a single private FTP account to transmit your Web documents to and from your directory. This means that you will have a single user name and password. Global Presence does not provide anonymous FTP accounts. Files may be offered for download on your site through http. For Windows hosting plans we support index.html, index.htm, index.cfm, home.htm, default.htm, index.asp and default.asp as defaults pages and index.html and index.shtml for Linux based hosting. If you would like to use a different file name for your index page we may be able to customize your virtual server to do so. We suggest that if you want your directories to have clean URLs you name the default page in each subdirectory of your Web site. For example: http://www.globalpresence.ca/travel would display one of the default files in the "travel" sub-directory of the main directory. Global Presence hosts Web sites on servers which run the Windows 2000 operating system and use Microsoft IIS 5.0 Web server software or Redhat's Linux using Apache. Many of our internal systems are UNIX servers and workstations running either Linux or Solaris. Global Presence's minimum requirement is a web server with dual Pentium II 500s with 256MB of RAM. Our newest servers are dual Pentium III 650 MHz Dell PowerEdge Servers with a minimum of 512 MB of RAM. Each server is connected to a high speed SCSI drive array providing speed, redundancy and daily backup of data. Two network cards connect each server to a gigabit Cisco Ethernet switch and a redundant OC3 backbone provides the reliability, performance and scalability required for mission-critical sites. Yes. You can resell space within your account. However, you will be responsible for its content and data transfer. It will not be possible to acquire multiple account passwords for FTP access. No. For security reasons we do not offer shell accounts or telnet access. We will never change anything on your account without a specific request on your part. If you anticipate an increase in your bandwidth usage or disk storage space and wish to change plans contact us. This change will be effective at the beginning of your next billing cycle. Unused traffic cannot be credited or carried forward. Each month, you get a new traffic allotment.
